Mainly because the cinematic presentation isn’t what we’ve come to expect from an Uncharted game. You can tell that Naughty Dog isn’t at the helm here. I can’t stress enough how good the game looks. Textures are nice, again, very impressive for a portable. Vistas are gorgeous, forcing you to stop and just gaze. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a launch title, after all – so think of what developers will be able to do with the device with some time and mastery of the hardware. Which says a lot for the capabilities of the PlayStation Vita. It’s not the realistic-looking Uncharted 3, but it’s honestly not all that far off. It’s stunning, and Golden Abyss makes for a beautiful game to display on it. It’s evident that Sony Bend wanted to exploit everything the Vita hardware had to offer for Uncharted: Golden Abyss.īut that OLED screen isn’t just for touching. And there’s are a few surprises that I’d love to talk about, but it’d be a shame to spoil. Like I said, this old “dog” has learned new tricks: Drake can now clear out vines and overgrown vegetation using a machete he takes charcoal rubbings of hieroglyphics he snaps pictures of the environment with a camera he carries around in his backpack. It’s not necessary, but it feels more natural and intuitive. And he does it in more ways. All of Drake’s melee moves, ducking for cover, and running and gunning are here on the PlayStation Vita, except now a lot of it can be performed using the Vita’s touch-screen.

Surprisingly, anything big Drake can do mini-Drake can do better. And more amazing still, on a launch title. When it’s all said and done, you still may not believe that what you’ve just played is possible on a handheld. And it’s something that must be seen to be truly believed.

But what I could never expect, is that they’d produce an Uncharted game that’s not only worthy of the name, but it’s without a shadow of a doubt, the deepest, most-varied, console-like experience I’ve ever had on a portable system.

It’s not that I didn’t believe Sony Bend could make a great game based on a PS3 exclusive – they’ve proven themselves before. I myself – I’m sure like many others – was very skeptical. Naughty Dog is mostly hands-off, leaving Sony Bend to the task of bringing Nathan Drake to the portable system. Still, if you are purposely looking for a not-so-overcomplicated editor for tasks similar to those described above, look no further.Uncharted: Golden Abyss is developed by Sony Bend in cooperation with Naughty Dog. While it can perform certain editing jobs, its number is very limited. Conclusionīesides the funny name, Machete is more of a multimedia player than an editor. If you don't have the proper codecs on your system, the application will act up upon opening a video, informing you about the lack of a specific codec. AVI, MP4, 3GP, 3G2, MOV, MKV, WebM, WMV, MP3, WAV, and FLV are supported by Machete, but there's a catch. If you are wondering about what formats the tool agrees with, that's not a hefty list. Open the Shortcuts menu to check out the default binding or make new ones for yourself. Moving forward, one can insert a file within a video not targeting a specific position determined by keyframes.ĭespite the somewhat limited number of features, there are hotkeys in place for each action. While not even coming close to a seasoned editor, Machete can still be handy for a basic, undemanding task such as changing metadata info, saving still frames as images, or adding an audio stream over an unrelated clip. Machete has seemingly nitpicked a handful of video and audio editing features and bundled them together with a player.

Sadly, the player has no context menu, forcing the user to constantly access the toolbar's Play dropdown menu. The toolbar and the ribbon beneath are equipped with clear tooltips, facilitating quick and accurate actions. The interface allocates most of its space to the multimedia player. To keep referencing the machete, the looks are dull but sturdy. Comprehensive app with simple architecture Maybe cutting frames and splitting apart a file's audio and video streams were the features inspiring the name, which is making sense. Machete is a harmless application sporting an edgy name only, as there is not much of a connection between a sharp tool and a multimedia player with rudimentary editing features.
